Experience
Damon has more than seven years of experience providing education, training, and consulting services in various venues.
He worked for four years at Planned Parenthood of the Southern Finger Lakes providing education services to imprisoned youth; alcohol and drug rehabilitation center clients; college, middle, and high school students; and the LGBT community. The programs he created covered wide variety of sexuality and sexual health oriented topics including communication, healthy relationships, decision making, body image, STI prevention, contraception, sex toys, working with transgender patients, and positive sexuality.
In Philadelphia Damon has been on the planning committee for the Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference. In 2007 he acted as Co-Chair for the Trans-Health Conference Provider’s Day, helping to organize a full-day of professional training for Social Workers, Therapists, Medical Providers, and Educators.
He has also worked with the Public Health Management Corporation to design and implement their Philadelphia Transgender Health Needs Assessment 2009 focus groups and survey. Damon has provided education services to local providers including St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and Temple University through the Bryson Institute, the educational arm of The Attic Youth Center. Currently he works at The Attic Youth Center as Direct Service Coordinator and as a Counselor.
Damon earned his Masters in Social Work and Doctorate in Human Sexuality Education from Widener University. He provides counseling services for LGBT Adolescents and Adults at the Attic Youth Center and at his private practice. You can learn more about Damon’s counseling services at www.therapistdamon.com.
He works from a client-centered perspective and uses a combination of Narrative and Cognitive Behavioral methods. This framework allows him to work with clients to help them discover and continue to build their own intrinsic strengths. Damon is also a trained Sex Therapist working towards is accreditation from the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).
Damon has presented at both regional and national conferences including the Philadelphia Trans-Health Conference, True Colors, and GENDERPAC. He is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists, The Society for the Scientific Study of Sexuality (SSSS), Pennsylvania Society for Clinical Social Work, Trans-Academics, and Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honors Society in Education.
